According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it means hollow inside. According to the Collection of Rhymes (Jiyun), the body of a bone is called a cavity. It also refers to the flank of a horse. According to the Important Arts for the People's Welfare (Qimin Yaoshu), in the method of judging horses, the intestines should be full and the flank should be small.
