Broad Rhymes (Guangyun): Pronounced deng (falling tone). Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), Proper Rhymes (Zhengyun): Pronounced deng (falling tone), similar to peng (falling tone).
As defined in the Analytical Dictionary of Characters (Shuowen): The act of lowering a coffin into the earth during a funeral.
Commentary of Zuo (Zuo Zhuan), twelfth year of Duke Zhao: When the Duke of Zheng was buried, the tomb keeper's shed stood in the way; if destroyed, the burial would take place in the morning, but if not destroyed, it would take place at midday.
Also, per Collected Rhymes (Jiyun): Pronounced peng. A target used for archery practice.
