Pronounced pen. Name of a river. Geography General Commentary (Dili Tongshi) states: Xunyang County was originally Pen City. Tang Records (Tangzhi) states: Jiangzhou has the Pen City Garrison. He Yan's Records of Jiujiang (Jiujiang Zhi) states: Qingpen Mountain has a well shaped like a basin, hence it is named Pen River, the city is called Pen City, the river mouth is called Pen Estuary, and Jiangzhou historically had the Pen River. Another theory states it is water gushing forth. Former Han Records: Ditch and Canal Treatise (Qianhan Gouxu Zhi) states: The Yellow River surged and overflowed.
Also pronounced pen (falling tone). Cangjie Period (Cangjie Pian) states: Pen, the sound of water. Guo Pu's River Rhapsody (Jiang Fu) states: The river current flows with the sound of thunder and the speed of lightning.
