A type of grass. It can be used to make ropes.
Zhang Heng, Rhapsody on the Southern Capital (Nandu Fu): Among the grasses there are piao, zhu, fan, and guan.
Wang Bao, Contract for a Youth (Tong Yue): Gather many reeds and ramie, and manufacture many ropes.
Compendium of Materia Medica (Bencao): The roots of the ramie plant are ground with rice flour to make cakes to ward off hunger; the taste is sweet.
Also there is Zhulu, the name of a mountain.
Annals of Wu and Yue (Wuyue Chunqiu): The firewood-selling women in Zhulu Mountain were named Xishi and Zhengdan.

Book of Odes (Shijing), Odes of Chen (Chen Feng): The pool outside the east gate can be used to soak ramie.
Commentary: Zhu is the same as this. Also written as zhu.
