Zhameng is a type of locust, resembling a long-horned grasshopper but smaller. In the Materia Medica (Bencao), it is stated: "An insect, also known as a zhameng."
According to Corrected Six Scripts (Liushu Zheng'e), zhameng is an insect found on grass. It is also borrowed as a name for a type of boat, drawing an analogy to its small size. The alternative forms written as zemeng are considered incorrect.
