According to the Collection of Characters (Yupian), it is spring wheat.
According to the Extended Rhymes (Guangyun), it is barley.
According to the Materia Medica of Wu Pu (Wu Pu Bencao), it is barley, also known as ear wheat, and is the chief among the five grains.
According to the Expanded Wing of the Erya (Erya Yi), barley is suitable for cooking as rice, can be made into vinegar, and its sprouts can be used to make maltose. It is also known as short-grain wheat.
According to the Cangjie Jiegu, this refers to boiled wheat.
