According to the Broad Rhymes (Guangyun), pronounced mei; according to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), the Rhyme Collection (Yunhui), and the Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), pronounced mei, with the sound of mei. It means dust. From Nine Laments (Jiu huai) in the Songs of Chu (Chuci): Dust and earth suddenly appear dense and thick (mei mei). Also written in a variant form. According to the Broad Rhymes (Guangyun), pronounced mo; according to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) and the Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), pronounced mo, with the sound of mo. From Nine Sighs (Jiu tan) in the Songs of Chu (Chuci): Increasing mists and fogs are like grinding or wearing away (mei).
