Shigu comments: Mao is the archaic form of the character for flourish.

Mao Commentary: Mao is a type of tree. It is a tree that produces edible fruit.
Su Song, Illustrated Classic (Tujing): It belongs to the same family as the Chinese quince; between the fruit stem and the fruit, there is an additional overlapping stem, shaped like a nipple.
Piya: The pear has one hundred harms and only one benefit; the quince has one hundred benefits and only one harm. Linzhong assists Ruibin.
