Explanation of Names (Shiming): A burial that does not conform to ritual is called mai (to cause distress). It is merely to cause decay. It also means to store.
Zuo Tradition (Zuozhuan), Thirteenth Year of Zhao: Buried a jade disk in the courtyard of the Great Ancestral Temple.
Biography of Zhang Gang, Book of the Later Han (Hou Hanshu): In the first year of the Han'an era, eight envoys were dispatched to inspect local customs, and Gang alone buried his carriage wheels at the Luoyang post station.
