In the Shuowen Jiezi (Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters), it is defined as to end.
In the Zuo Tradition of the Spring and Autumn Annals (Zuozhuan), during the twenty-second year of Duke Xi, Shu Zhan said, Will the King of Chu not meet his end? He practices rites but dies without distinction; how will he end? The commentary states that not meeting an end refers to not dying a natural death.

Meaning to be exhausted.
In the Tai Xuan Jing (Great Mystery Classic) by Yang Xiong, it states, Bend the joints, hold to the method, and maintain that which is exhausted. The commentary states that the method is the Way. To be exhausted means the end. To bend the joints to the Way is simply to exhaust the body. Regarding the pronunciation hu, according to various rhyme dictionaries, this sound is not listed; it is added here.
