Pronounced ming.
According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), mingding describes the state of being heavily intoxicated. For a detailed explanation, refer to the entry for the character ding.
Additionally, the Records of Ye (Yezhong ji) states that during the Cold Food Festival, a beverage known as liming is prepared; furthermore, the term ming is used to describe a dish made from cooked non-glutinous rice and wheat.
In the Biography of Chao Cuo in the History of the Former Han (Qianhan shu), it is written that one may eat meat and drink ming.
According to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), the character is sometimes written in a variant form (ming). It is used interchangeably with the character ming.
