This refers to a type of superior grain with red sprouts. It is mentioned in the Book of Odes (Shijing), specifically within the Great Odes (Daya) section, where it says, "There is the red millet and the qǐ millet." In the Literary Expositor (Erya), in the section explaining grasses, it is written in a variant form (mén). The commentary explains this as red millet. According to the Jade Compendium (Yupian), it is also defined as porridge.
