According to Guangyun (Guǎngyùn), pronounced liáng jù qiē. According to Jiyun (Jíyùn), Yunhui (Yùnhuì), and Zhengyun (Zhèngyùn), pronounced liáng jù qiē. The sound is lǜ.
According to Shuowen Jiezi (Shuōwén), it means to assist. The original form was a character composed of the radical Strength (lì) and a component resembling Fei, with Lu as the phonetic component. Sometimes also written as 勴.
According to Erya Commentary (Ěryǎ zhù), lǚ means to praise and encourage. Not assisting with physical strength, but assisting with one's heart/mind.
According to Jiyun (Jíyùn), sometimes also written as the character composed of the radical Strength (lì) on the left and Lu (lǜ) on the right.
