Pronounced luo.
According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it refers to a sturgeon.
According to the Literary Expositor (Erya), in the section Explaining Fish, it says that the luo is the shu-sturgeon. The commentary notes that in the present-day Yidu Commandery, upstream from Jingmen, the Yangtze River produces the sturgeon and the zhan fish. There is a fish that looks like a zhan but is smaller; the people of Jianping call it the luo child.
The sub-commentary states that the sturgeon, also known as the luo, has white flesh and does not taste as good as the zhan fish. Please refer to the entry for sturgeon (wei) for further details.
