A state name. According to Explaining Characters (Shuowen), it was the fiefdom of the Yún clan, descendants of Zhùróng, located between the Zhēn and Wěi rivers. It was extinguished by Duke Wu of Zheng. In Zuo Commentary (Zuozhuan), Year 33 of Duke Xi, 'Lady of Duke Wen of Zheng collected and buried him beneath the city of Kuài.' The commentary states: Kuài City was the former state of Kuài, located northeast of Mì County in Xíngyáng. Also written as huì (a variant character). In the commentary to 'Airs of Kuài' in the Book of Odes (Shijing), it states: Kuài was a state name. It was the former territory of Zhùróng, the Fire Official of Emperor Kù. It was located north of Wàifāng Mountain in Yù Province, as recorded in Tribute of Yu (Yugong), and south of Xíng Lake and Bō River. Modern-day Zhèngzhōu is that place. Also a surname. According to Collected Rhymes, there was a person named Kuài Shìlóng during the Song dynasty. Note: According to Character Glossary Supplement (Zihui Bu), it is identical to the character kuài.
