According to the Broad Rhymes (Guangyun), Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), and Collection of Rhymes (Yunhui), the pronunciation is kuai. According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it refers to a storage place for straw and hay. In the Urgent Learning Chapter (Jijiupian), it is mentioned as: bricks, walls, storage rooms, stables, and eastern annexes. The commentary notes: A storage room is where straw and hay are kept. It also refers to Kuaiji, the name of a star. In the Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), Book of Celestial Officials (Tianguanshu), it states: The Stomach constellation is the Heavenly Granary, and the many stars to its south are called Kuaiji. In the Book of Sui (Suishu), Treatise on Astronomy (Tianwenzhi), it states: The four stars of the Heavenly Granary are located south of the Hairy Head constellation. Another name for it is the Heavenly Storage, which presides over the accumulation of millet and panicled millet to be used for sacrificial offerings.
