Commentary (Shu) states: Hao is sometimes written as hao.
Examination of Han Institutions (Hanzhikao): Plowing fields and weeding grass.
History of the Tang (Tangshu), Biography of Lu Guimeng: Carrying a basket on his back, weeding and pruning without rest.
Note states: Hao and ci mean to remove weeds.
Also, in Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced xu (level tone). It is interchangeable with xiu.
Jade Chapter (Yupian) defines this as to heal.
