Pronounced hai (falling tone).
According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it refers to the foul smell of rotting food.
The Six Categories of Graphs (Liushu Gu) describes it as the pungent odor of spoiled food.
The Erh-ya (Erya), in the chapter Interpreting Vessels (Shiqi), states: 餀 is also known as 餯.
The Commentary (Shu) clarifies that both 餀 and 餯 refer to things that are filthy and putrid.
According to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), there is another pronunciation, ke, and yet another pronunciation, (tone unspecified). Both have the same meaning.
The Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) notes that this character is the same as the character 饚.
