Pronounced huan
A river name. According to the Commentary on the Classic of Water (Shuijingzhu), the Qu River flows southeast through Kaifeng County, where the Sui and Huan Rivers originate.
Also the name of a hexagram. According to the Correct Meaning of the Book of Changes (Yijing Zhengyi), the hexagram Huan denotes scattering and releasing. A person of great virtue builds accomplishments and merit. When difficulties are dispersed and dangers released, this is called Huan. As mentioned in the Book of Odes (Shijing), in the Zhou Hymns (Zhou Song), it says: Continuing the legacy which was scattered.
Also, huan-huan describes the appearance of abundant water. As mentioned in the Book of Odes (Shijing), in the Odes of Zheng (Zhengfeng), it says: The Zhen and Wei rivers are currently flowing abundantly.
Also, huan-lan describes the appearance of literary patterns or writings. As recorded in the Biography of Yan Du in the History of the Later Han (Hou Hanshu), it says: Brilliant and overflowing to the eyes.
Also, pronounced hui. The meaning is the same.
