Zhuangzi, External Objects (Waiwu): Fish do not fear the net, but they fear the pelican. Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing): On Mount Luqi, there is no vegetation, only sand and stone. The Sha River originates here and flows south into the Cen River. The water contains many pelican birds, shaped like mandarin ducks but with human-like feet. Their cries sound as if they are calling their own names. Commentary: The modern pelican has feet very similar to human feet.
