According to Collection of Rhymes (Yunhui), the pronunciation is also guan. As defined in Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it refers to large eyes. According to Expanded Rhymes (Guangyun), it describes the appearance of eyes protruding. As stated in Zuo Commentary (Zuozhuan), Year 2 of Duke Xuan, it says, "His eyes were large and protruding." The commentary states that when eyes are large, they appear to protrude. Sometimes written in a variant form (huan). Also, according to Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced han.
