According to the Jade Chapters (Yupian), it is a red-colored bull. In the Gongyang Commentary on the Spring and Autumn Annals (Gongyang Zhuan), for the thirteenth year of Duke Wen, it states: The Duke of Lu used a red-colored bull. According to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is commonly written as gang. According to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is sometimes written as mang. Note: The Broad Rhymes (Guangyun) defines mang separately as a water buffalo, whereas the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) merges them into one, which is incorrect.
