Erya, Interpretation of Insects: Guǐ is a pupa. Commentary: That which the silkworm transforms into; one name is guǐ, another is pupa.
Liu Zongyuan, Questions to Heaven (Tian dui): The guǐ gnaws its own poison, not letting it spread outward.
Also, Collected Rhymes (Jiyun): Pronounced kui (falling tone). The meaning is the same.
