Erya, Explanation of Names (Erya): gu means great.
Commentary: The Dialect (Fangyan) states that whenever something is large and robust, it is called gu.
Shuowen Jiezi: Refers to that which is vast, grand, and far-reaching.
Yupian: Means sturdy and firm.
Guangyun: Means good fortune or blessings.
Book of Odes (Shijing), Greater Odes (Daya): To bestow upon you grand blessings is constant.
Notes: The blessings of descendants are called gu.
Book of Rites (Liji), Conveyance of Rites (Liyun): During sacrificial rites, the petitions and prayers for blessings do not alter their inherent traditions; this is called grand ritual.
Suburban Special Sacrifices (Jiaotesheng): gu means long-lasting, vast, and great.

Book of Odes (Shijing), Odes of Zhou (Zhousong): May August Heaven bestow many blessings and protections; may the meritorious King Wen and the feudal lords enjoy numerous blessings in peace, that their radiance may continue in grand fortune.
