Commentary: The Dialect (Fangyan) states that whenever something is large and robust, it is called gu. Shuowen Jiezi: Refers to that which is vast, grand, and far-reaching. Yupian: Means sturdy and firm. Guangyun: Means good fortune or blessings. Book of Odes (Shijing), Greater Odes (Daya): To bestow upon you grand blessings is constant. Notes: The blessings of descendants are called gu.
