Pronounced fāng. Meaning: Side-by-side boats. According to the Explanation of Writing (Shuowen), it was originally written as the character for square, or sometimes written with the water radical as 汸.
Additionally, pronounced fāng. Same as 淓. Refers to a river name. In the Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing), it is written: The Jiwei Mountain is the source of the Fang River, which flows south and empties into the Yu River. The commentary notes that it is pronounced fāng.
Also, pronounced fáng. The meaning is the same.
Also, in the Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), pronounced pāng. Same as 滂. In the Book of Xunzi (Xunzi), it is written: Vast like a river or the sea.
