In Tangyun (Tángyùn), pronounced dū-hán qiè. In Jiyun (Jíyùn) and Yunhui (Yùnhuì), pronounced duō-hán qiè, sounding like dān. Handan, an ancient county name. "Marquis Wei attacked Handan Wu at Han Clan" — Zuo Commentary (Zuǒzhuàn), Ding 10th year. Annotation: Handan is a county in Guangping. Handan belonged to the state of Zhao — Geographical Treatise (Dìlǐ Zhì) of the Former Han (Qián Hàn). Annotation: Han is a mountain name. Dan means 'exhausted' or 'end'; it means the Han mountain range ends here. The character for city (郭) follows the radical City (yì), hence the addition of the radical 邑 to form 鄲.
