Pronounced dian. Explaining the Writing of Characters (Shuowen Jiezi): The name of a lake in Yizhou. Book of Han (Hanshu), Geographical Treatise: The water is located in Dianchi County, Yizhou. Also the name of a Southwest Yi (non-Han people of the southwest) group. Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), Account of the Southwest Yi: Among the dozens of rulers of the Southwest Yi, Yelang is the largest; among those following in size, Dian is the largest.
Pronounced tian. Dian-wu, the appearance of vast water. Also, the appearance of abundance. Book of Han (Hanshu), Hymns for State Sacrifices: Floating and drifting, vast and abundant, following the high banners.
