According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it refers to refined gold in the form of a cake.
According to the Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), lingding is the name of a spear. Guo Pu says it is a crane-knee spear, known in the Jiangdong region as lingding. Another theory suggests it is an iron spade.
According to the Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), it refers to an iron nail.
According to the Book of Jin (Jinshu), Biography of Tao Kan: He commanded that all bamboo scraps and wood shavings be stored. When Huan Wen attacked Shu, he used the stored bamboo scraps to make nails for outfitting ships.
The name of a country. The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing) mentions the country of Dingling. The commentator Wu Renchen says that Dingling is the modern country of Dingling, also called Dingling. It is also written as Dingling.
