According to the Book of Dialects (Fangyan) by Yang Xiong, in the regions of the Yangtze and Huai rivers and southern Chu, a single-layered garment is called die, while east of the pass it is called a single-layered garment. In the Songs of Chu (Chuci), Nine Songs: I left my garment by the Li River. The commentary notes that collars, garments, and flowing robes were used when attending to the spirits. In the Comments of a Recluse (Qianfulun), it is stated that using patterned silk ribbons and colorful single-layered garments is arrogant, extravagant, and exceeds the standards of the master. In the Six Writings Corrected (Liushu zheng'e), it is noted that writing it as a variant form is incorrect.
