According to Tang Rhyme (Tangyun) and Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is pronounced shen (falling tone). It means to unfold or to stretch an object out. Also, according to Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is pronounced chen. It is identical to the character shen (stretch). It means to extend, and also carries the meanings of pulling or twisting. Sometimes it is also written in a variant form (tian).
