Guangyun (Expanded Rhymes) and Zhengyun (Correct Rhymes) state the pronunciation is xu jiang, resulting in the sound gang. Jiyun (Collected Rhymes) and Yunhui (Collection of Rhymes) state the pronunciation is xu jiang, resulting in the sound gang. Guangyun states that the term refers to the appearance of a boat. Yupian (Jade Chapters) defines it as a boat. Zengyun (Expanded Rhymes) identifies it as a term for a boat used in the Wu region. Additionally, Jiyun states the pronunciation is ku jiang, resulting in the sound qiang, with the same meaning. Furthermore, Wuyin Jiyun (Collected Rhymes of the Five Sounds) states the pronunciation is shi chuan, resulting in the sound chuan, noting it is a vulgar form of the character for boat. In the Table of Ancient and Modern People from the History of the Former Han (Qian Hanshu), it is recorded that a boatman from Jin named Gu Lai traveled here. Peixi Ji (Collection for Tusk-cutting) notes that when writing the term for a sailing vessel, the character for boat is used, and no order is more clear than this.
