Hai Collection, Upper Volume Radical: Horse (mǎ) Entry: 骋 Kangxi Stroke Count: 17 Page 1439, Entry 01 Ancient form. Pronounced cheng (rising tone). According to the Jade Chapters (Yupian), it means to gallop straight or to run. In the Heaven and Earth chapter of the Zhuangzi (Zhuangzi), it states: when one proceeds freely to fulfill its destiny, whether large or small, long or short, near or far. The commentary notes that this refers to acting with total abandon and reaching the ultimate extent of one's nature. It is also pronounced chang (rising tone) as a poetic rhyme. In the Daoist Canon Songs (Daozang Ge), it states: Holding hands with the jade guest, we mount the carriage and ride the misty expanse. The Yellow Register commands the jade talisman, and the young lord carries me upward.
