Chen means to manage or to bustle about. It is cited in the Wangsun Fu (Rhapsody on the Prince) by Wang Yanshou of the Eastern Han dynasty: Supporting the high and craggy cliffs to bustle about. Some editions write this as chenchuan. Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), Biographies of Money-makers, also contains the record: Spreading out Chenchuan in Yangping. Zhengzitong (Correction of Characters) considers the character chen to be redundant. The specific details are unknown.
