Pronounced ce. Pronounced shi. Pronounced zhai. Pronounced ze. It is a tool used for fishing. Rites of Zhou (Zhouli): The fisherman uses a sao at the appropriate season to catch fish, turtles, clams, and various creatures hidden in the mud at the bottom of the water. Note: A sao refers to using a fork to pierce the mud to capture prey.

Also used interchangeably with the character jie. Liezi: Elders and young ones gather in groups to form a pen (jie).
