Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen): Yellow wood. Sometimes written with the element xue. Materia Medica (Bencao): Li Shizhen says: Bo is a tree name. The meaning is not yet clear. The common usage of huangbo is an erroneous simplified form. Travel Difficulties (Xinglu Nan) by Bao Zhao: Shredding the bo wood to dye yellow silk, the yellow silk is tangled and cannot be managed.
