Compendium of Phonology (Jiyun): Pronounced cong. The form cong is sometimes written as zong. Blue-colored silk. Another interpretation indicates it refers to lightweight silk.
Extensive Eulogies (Boya): Green.
Rites of Zhou (Zhouli), Spring Officials, Chariot Minister: Adorned with heavy pheasant feathers and red silk tassels (zong).
Commentary: Zong is a blue-black color, made of silk fabric.

Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun): Pronounced zong.
Categorized Chapters (Leipian): A unit of measure for silk. The Book of Odes (Shijing) says: Five zong of white silk.

Note: According to the Text of the Five Classics (Wujing Wenzi), the character zong is derived from cong, and writing it as zong is incorrect. Currently, zong and zong are used interchangeably; this should be corrected.
