Pronounced zuan (falling tone) — "Jiè guān qiē" from Tang Yun, "Zǔ guān qiē" from Ji Yun. Pronounced jian (falling tone) — "Zǐ jiàn qiē" from Zheng Yun. In the "Book of Han (Qianhan Shu)", Yan Zhu's biography mentions "people who cut their hair and tattooed their bodies." Jin Zhuo's commentary states that the "Huainanzi" records the Yue people's custom of "cutting their hair." The character "劗" has the same meaning as "翦". It is also used interchangeably with "攒". For example, in "Han Feizi (Hanfeizi)", the phrase "following the rope to cut, and sewing according to the gathered piles" appears. It is also used interchangeably with "钻".
