Zi Collection, Upper Volume Radical: Person (rén) Page 14, Entry 07 Pronounced ji (falling tone) Refers to illness, and also to the death of wild animals. Another interpretation: refers to the broken bones of birds and beasts. Same as the characters 胔 and 骴. The "Chun Guan" chapter of the "Book of Rites (Zhouli)" records: The wax official is in charge of clearing away the bones of dead animals. The annotation states: In the old "Book", 骴 was written as 脊. Zheng Sinong said: 脊 is pronounced "ji" (falling tone) and refers to the bones of dead people. The "Yueling" states: Bury the bones and broken bones. Those bones with flesh still attached, as well as the bones of birds and beasts, all belong to this category. Also written as 髊 and 欓 in the "Jiyun".
