Compendium of Rhymes (Jiyun) defines it as a swelling of the foot. Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun) defines it as swelling of the lower limbs. Commentary in the Zuo Tradition (Zuozhuan), Year 6 of Duke Cheng: Xianzi said, when the people are troubled, they become despondent and constrained; this is the origin of the affliction of being bogged down and suffering from heavy swelling of the feet.
