Pronounced zhu (rising tone)
Explanation: "The character 煑 (zhǔ) is pronounced zhu (rising tone). It is the same as 煮 (zhǔ). The rhyme dictionaries Tang Yun (Tangyun) and Ji Yun (Jiyun) state that the pronunciation is the same as 煑 (zhǔ). The Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen Jiezi) explains it as 亯 (xiǎng). Some forms of the character include the radical for fire, written as 煑 (zhǔ). Other forms include the radical for water in the middle, written as . The Zhou Li (Zhōulǐ), in the chapter Tian Guan (Tianguan) and section Yan Ren (Yǎn Rén), records: 'For all matters of blending, boil salt and await orders.' The Qian Hanshu (Qian Hanshu), in the chapter Shi Huo Zhi (Shí Huò Zhì), records: 'Smelting and boiling salt.' The commentary by Shigu states: 䰞 (zhǔ), the same as 煮 (zhǔ).
