Broad Rhymes (Guangyun) is pronounced se, and Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) is pronounced se. It is pronounced the same as zhi. Jade Chapters (Yupian) defines it as bise. Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) explains that bise is the sound made when something is emitted. In Wang Bao’s Rhapsody on the Bamboo Flute (Dongxiao Fu), it is written: Sounding bise as if about to recite. In Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is sometimes also written in a variant form (ji). Also in Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is pronounced ji. Bise describes talking a great deal.
