Zi Collection, Upper Volume, Page 12, Entry 05 Pronounced zhi (falling tone) in the Guangyun (Guangyun), and pronounced zhang (falling tone) in the Jiyun (Jiyun), with the same sound as "zhen." Refers to the appearance of anger and glaring eyes. Also, the Leipian (Leipian) records it as the vital essence of the eyes. The "Notes on the Biography of Lu Zhi" in the Later Han Dynasty History (Hou Hanshu) states that lacking eyeballs is called blindness. It is interchangeable with the character "zhan."
