Zi Collection, Middle Volume Radical: Work (gōng) Page 174, Entry 08 "Yu Pian" records this as the ancient form of the character "zhan" (to unfold). "Liu Shu Zheng E" explains that the combination of four "gong" (work) characters signifies spreading out and unfolding, classifying it as a compound ideograph. In clerical script, it is written as "㞡", with the middle part adopting the form of "㠭". The common script form is also written as "展".
