You Collection, Lower Volume Radical: Wine (yǒu) Kangxi strokes: 17 Page 1286, Entry 17 Pronounced yǒng. In the Explanation of Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it refers to drinking. Xu says it refers to the loss of propriety through alcohol. The Jade Chapters (Yupian) defines it as excessive drinking. The Rhyme Collection (Yunhui) notes that for base people, drinking is a daily indulgence and they take pride in it, hence the character is derived from wine. In the Baopuzi, On Immortals chapter, it states: Those who are habitually drunk and decadent cannot criticize Du Yi for being a vintner. The proclamation by Emperor Wu of Liang states: Given to wanton drinking and decadence, singing and drinking in taverns. Additionally, in the Supplement to the Collection of Characters (Zihui Bu), it is the name of a shell. The Classic of Shells (Xiangbei Jing) mentions the yǒng shell. Also, pronounced xiòng.
