Book of Changes (Yi Jing), Hexagram of Viewing: With sincerity and a majestic appearance. Commentary: Yong refers to a stern and upright appearance.
Book of Odes (Shijing), Greater Odes: Dignified and lofty. Tradition states: Yong yong means a gentle appearance. The Annotation states: The physical bearing is dignified and respectful. The Approaching Elegance (Erya), Explanation of Teachings: Yong yong and ang ang refer to the virtue of a ruler. Also, it denotes a large appearance. When a beast is large and strong, it is called yong. Book of Odes (Shijing), Lesser Odes: The four stallions are long and broad, and their size is imposing.
