The "Shuowen Jiezi" (Shuowen Jiezi) explains it as a type of bird. The character is composed of "zhuī" and uses a simplified form of "yin" to indicate pronunciation. Xu Ao further adds that because falcons can follow human commands, the character implies "person" in its form. The form of this character in the "Shuowen Jiezi" is (character form omitted).
