According to the Yupian (Jade Compendium), it is the name of a beast. Another pronunciation is yao (first tone). Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing): On Di Mountain there is a beast whose shape is like a leopard but it has patterns on its head, and its name is Zhao. Commentary: Guo Pu says the pronunciation is yao (first tone). Note: The Jiyun (Collected Rhymes) incorrectly records it as a different character with the pronunciation zhilueqie, which is incorrect. See the note under that character for further details.
