According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it is defined as sprinkling water. In the Treatise on the Suburban Sacrifice (Fengshan shu) by Sima Xiangru: Furthermore, how can one completely sweep away the achievements of the sages of the previous thousands of years.
