Zi Collection, Page Position: Upper, Radical: Hand (shǒu), Page 336, Entry 09
Pronounced xuān (level tone). Same as "huan".
Meaning: to pull, to lift clothing with the hands.
In the "Book of Rites (Liji)", it states: "This is like what is now called 'huan yi'."
Also sometimes written as "huan". See the explanation for "huan".
Also, in the "Jiyun", it is pronounced "xian ming qie". It also means to bare the arm. Other versions mistakenly write it as "huan".
According to the "Jiyun", it is pronounced "xuan", and also "yan". Yang Shen, in his "Yilin Shan", states that "huan" means to stroke along with the hand, and also that a round head is called "huan", and a round face is called "huan". Therefore, the character "huan" originally had the pronunciation of "huan". The "Zhengtong" states: "The character 'huan' does not have the pronunciation 'xuan'," which is an insufficient examination.
