It means "to store" or "to preserve." The "Zuo Zhuan" (Zuo Commentary) on Duke Xiang, year 30, records: "Take my robes and store them." The commentary explains: "chǔ means to place within." The "Pian Hai" (Sea of Characters) states that "chǔ" means to "disrobe" or "to hide." Additionally, the "Collected Rhymes of the Five Tones" (Wuyin Jiyun) gives the pronunciation chǒu liù qiè, with the same sound as "xù." The meaning is the same.
